The right business and investment strategies
The achievement of your wealth creation objectives will represent the completion of one of life’s most important goals – to be financially independent by your own means. We take an innovative and preservation-based approach to wealth management which builds upon a 60-year legacy of insight and experience.
… and we’ve been doing this for a long time!
Locumsgroup was established in 1952 in London to provide service to Australian Medical and Dental Practitioners with their business and financial affairs while they were overseas. The early business services provided included placing medical and dental practitioners in locum roles – that explains our company name, as well as advice and assistance buying and selling medical and dental practices. While no longer placing doctors in jobs, we believe we make the job of managing our client’s financial and business affairs a lot easier and a lot more effective.
These are the important outcomes that we seek to achieve with our clients.
Get clear on time, value, and money. The future lies ahead and will either generously repay the rewards of good planning and sensible financial management; or the future will reflect the outcome of not planning ahead and not making good decisions with your money.
If you want an easy life; then make some hard decisions. You will have a hard life if you only ever make easy decisions!
What people want to know is: Am I OK? Am I on track? Know me, know my family, help me, simplify me, de-clutter me, and remove my anxiety. How many people, irrespective of income or net worth, would genuinely know whether they are on track to achieve their goals? If they’re not on track, what are the alternatives to get them there, and if they are on track, what discipline is required to stay that way?
Understand and establish a set of rules. No speculating; no concentration risk; no betting on tips; diversify your investments; don’t follow the crowd; have patience; understand investment emotions.
Rule of 72
The simple arithmetic trick: 72 divided by the growth rate of an investment will give you the number of years required for the capital to double. By example:
An investment that grows at 10.00% per annum will double in value in 7.2 years (72/10 =7.2).
An investment that grows at 7.20% per annum will double in value in 10.0 years (72/7.2 = 10).
If you combine an evidenced-based philosophy of investment management with sound advice and a great investor discipline, we believe that you tilt the odds in your favour and maximise the chance of enjoying a successful investor experience.

Locumsgroup's process involves a disciplined, innovative and integrated approach to tax planning, accounting, financial advice and mortgage management.
Each member of our highly trained staff has the responsibility of managing specific components of your financial and accounting arrangements. This is conducted in an environment where each key team member is in open discussion with all other staff assigned to you.
Leverage of our expertise to achieve the best possible results.
Whether your needs are for a focused aspect of your financial arrangements or you require a detailed and comprehensive overhaul. We use a six-step client management process which identifies goals and objectives to drive the design of the financial strategy.
Each of these steps represents an important milestone in the development and management process.
A considerable amount of time will be spent collating information in relation to your personal circumstances. From that point we can establish a Statement of Position.
Identifying your goals and objectives
Once your goals and objectives are identified and outlined, we commence work towards outlining the best strategy to achieve these outcomes.
Identifying key financial metrics
This may include such issues as cash flow shortages, capital requirements, unrealistic goals and under insurance.
Preparation of your financial strategy
Having determined where you are now and where you want to go, we formulate a strategy aimed to illustrate the most appropriate path forward.
Implementing your financial strategy
Once the strategy has been identified and agreed, we commence the process of putting the recommendations into place and continue to monitor progress.
Reviewing your financial strategy
As your personal circumstances and economic conditions change over time, the review process is essential in ensuring the long term success of your financial plan.
It’s all about you.
We work closely with you using a proven analytical process to ensure that your financial arrangements are managed for maximum efficiency. The outcome of the process is to give clarity and understanding to your financial affairs.
To identify your goals and to establish an executable strategy to achieve them.
When it comes to investing, you often can’t can’t control the outcome; but you can control execution. Therefore, strategic execution is a key focus throughout the advice process.
Whether your needs are focused on the achievment of a key financial outcome with a specific focus; or you require a comprehensive overhaul of your financial arrangements, we can assist.
We recognise there is an inherent disconnect in the ability of traditional financial management models to meet your short term and longer term needs. We leverage this insight to develop an approach that avoids the formula-based pursuit of a single long term objective, at the expense of your short term needs.
We tailor each strategy to your unique circumstances.
As a Locumsgroup client you can be confident that each day your financial world will remain in-focus and on-task.
We try to see the world from your perspective.
Our exploratory process will assist in the identification of a clear set of priorities; the things that matter most for you. These priorities then become the focus of all subsequent actions from that point forward.
We understand your objectives are unique.
These re your priorities and our role is to identify, clarify, and de-mystify. From that point we hold our combined focus on the achievement of that objective.
We work with you - to identify exactly what is important to you now and in the future, from those points we determine a detailed strategy for the achievement of your goals.
We recognise that the ultimate judge of our
performance is what our clients say about us.
At Locumsgroup we pride ourself on the outcomes that we achieve for our clients. In seeking to be an excellent company, with aspirations to truly: “be the best we can be” we rely on feed back from our clients as they review the results of our service. Read what out clients have to say about us.
Every expertise I need for financial advice is provided here, under one roof (mortgage broker, accountant, superannuation specialist, insurance, tax planning). This was the most important reason that I started using Locumsgroup.
I have used their services for over 10 years. The reasons for this longevity are as follows:
- It is a well-oiled machine. Over the years, I have used multiple services within the company. Each team attends to my needs efficiently, with amazing professionalism and consistency.
- There is a seamless communication between multiple services within the team. They talk to each other before I walk into their office. All my needs are attended to when I walk out. No time wasting, no multiple phone calls, no explaining the same problems to multiple departments. Simple and stress free.
- I have, on multiple occasions, heard this from different staff of Locumsgroup: “yes, I will take care of it”. And then it is all done. Problem gone. And I get on with my life (more on-call duties or hopefully, more rounds of golf!).
To make a client feel specially valued all the time is very difficult to achieve. Locumsgroup achieves this by providing down-right old fashioned good service - every time. This is rare. And it is impressively consistent. I have not found it elsewhere.
Dr Benjamin Tang
I first became involved with Locumsgroup in 1988. It was around this time, when Locumsgroup started offering mortgage finance. The young Paul Ahearne I met at my home office was so keen and I took up his competitive offer.
Since then, Locumsgroup has continued to grow into a very successful financial services company. The firm now provides a full financial service from accounting, investment services, financial, superannuation and mortgage advice.
This growth has only occurred because of the excellent services the group provides. The close relationship which the firm develops with its clients such as myself, allows the client to talk to the advisors regarding any financial matters.
Being financially literate, I was probably a difficult client which did not phase Paul Ahearne or the other members of the of the group to discuss and solve some of the difficult financial questions/situations. Being a modestly high-wealth individual, other financial companies, tout for my business, only to find me as difficult client, and the phone calls stop! I feel that it is important to state this, because, it demonstrates that Locumsgroup does not give up, but looks after their clients’ interests extremely well and the depth of financial knowledge in that group allows for the most optimum advice.
Dr Thandavan Raj
FRCS (Eng) FRACS, Consultant ENT Surgeon, Nepean Hospital
I have been a client of Locumsgroup for 3 years and my financial outcomes have been extraordinary. The attention to detail and the limitless efforts applied to the management of financial affairs have resulted in extraordinary benefits.
Caufield North VIC
Locumsgroup has helped guide my finances for a number of years and the financial results have been amazing. The effort they put into every element in the management of my financial affairs has resulted in great benefits for myself and my family. The blend of detailed analysis combined with conservative risk-adjusted advice has resulted in my finances going from strength to strength
We have engaged with Locumsgroup to arrange finance for the purchase of our three properties (with several refinances along the way). Each time, we have found the staff accessible and helpful - especially during the panic station time near settlement. Francis, Larissa and all their Mortgage team have also been only too happy to assist with any queries and questions that we have had about our current loans and also our future financial direction. We would readily recommend their services.
Craig & Robyne Sutton
